NEW DELHI: A short film with university social responsibility meaning, Sustainable Agricultural Development by National Formosa University, was screened at this year’s Taiwan Film Festival on December 15 at INOX, Nehru Place, New Delhi, in addition to Listen Before You Sing (聽見歌再唱) and Long Time No Sea (只有大海知道).

This short film was produced by the Center for University Social Responsibility, National Formosa University Taiwan. By working with Agricultural Research and Extension Center, students group had this film to promote agricultural industry to younger generation by making use of new technology and knowledge of green energy and sustainability.

Through design of the curriculum and system, high school students can directly join university’s programme to complete bachelor’s degree without entry exam. Led by Professor Liang Yin Kuo, an Indian student also joined this film production to help on Hindi substiles and voiceover. This short film put different meaning into Taiwan’s film festival 2022.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Education launched the University Social Responsibility Programme (the USR Programme) in 2017 to guide university teachers and students to form interdisciplinary teams to serve as local think tanks for regional development. One hundred and sixteen universities have already initiated 220 projects under the Ministry of Education’s USR Program.

National Formosa University were assigned by the MOE Taiwan next year to develop and connect the only one operating sugar mill in Taiwan near its campus with its community, culture, history and research. In order to learn from India in this field, the Formosa team visited Dwarkesh Sugar Mill and Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University in Bareilly last week. They also help Dwarkesh Sugar Mill to explore the bird view of the mill and had fruitful discussion with R K Gupta, Senior Vice President of the mill. They will also have the film screened in Taiwan after completion.
